Jupiter Station Direct -and- Sagittarius New Moon

November 23rd 2022: Sagittarius season begins with a solid concentration of ruling planet Jupiter’s astonishing buoyancy and massive heft, like a cruise ship stabbing through the sea (to boldly go where no one has gone before): Jupiter stations direct at 28° Pisces, forming a trine to the New Moon at 1° Sagittarius. The exact moment of these events are five minutes apart.

Chiron and the Lunar Nodes

The lunar nodes travel backwards around the zodiac, providing a useful place to stand for retrograde and/or stationing planets to leverage meaningful knowledge and experience (especially when a node is conjunct a prominent natal placement). Chiron’s current retrograde is giving us just that opportunity with a long-term quincunx to the south node- the last aspect to the lunar nodes any object can make before beginning a new cycle with conjunction to the north node. Through the end of 2022 this quincunx allows us to rewrite history by adjusting/expanding/upgrading our memories of what has happened to us since the beginning of the cycle.

The current Chiron/lunar node cycle began in 2008 with a conjunction to the north node in Aquarius. In December of 2009, the south node was in Cancer forming the first building quincunx of this cycle to Chiron- which by then was joined in a triple conjunction with Jupiter and Neptune. It’s clear when I look back in my own life, what were the things that I began around 2008, how did those things go off the rails in 2009, and how have those things been the magnifying glass over my deepest rooted wounds ever since. These dates are all significant to the global collective experience as well.

Chiron formed the first T-square to the lunar nodes in March/April of 2012, and was conjunct the south node throughout March of 2016. The second T-square happened in March of 2020. The next cycle begins in 2024.

Jupiter’s current retrograde crossed the zero point between Aries and Pisces- in the past ten years only two other planets have done this: Venus and Chiron.

Jupiter Retrograde

On July 28th, Jupiter stationed retrograde at 8° Aries less than three hours after the New Moon at 5° Leo, forming an 87-degree building trine. There was also a square aspect between Mercury in Leo and Uranus in Taurus. The chart for July 28th explains the conflict between the urge to live an egocentric life (“nothing will stop me from having what I want, because I deserve it”), and the fact that the world is changing rapidly in ways that are bending the rules of cause and effect to be profoundly unpredictable.

Jupiter stations direct today five minutes after the exact moment of the Sagittarius New Moon, this time in an 87-degree separating trine. And this time the major square is between Mars and Neptune- both retrograde. Many people simply have not yet realized that there is a new price to pay for what they feel entitled to- especially if they are truly selfish and don’t care if they harm others on their quest for their desired achievements. Those who are in alignment are able to understand that many attitudes that were once very normal are now unsustainable, and despite the frustration of powerlessness and losing context for identity, they are able to embrace stillness, patience, non-action.

Whether you are connected to the web of life, or a ruthless individualist, no one knows what the consequences of our actions will be in 2023. The rules that helped us build this world are being broken. We can make mistakes and be enraged or we can choose to wait and be amazed.

“Our goal should be to get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.” -Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
