Mercury Station Direct -and- Sagittarius New Moon

December 6th 2018: Mercury stations direct in Scorpio during the New Moon in Sagittarius. The precise moment of these events are separated by about ten hours. Mercury is in a grand trine with the north node in Cancer, and Chiron in Pisces. The New Moon is exact opposite Eros in Gemini, and square Mars/Neptune.

When the north node first entered Cancer last month, it formed a long lasting trine to Chiron in Pisces. The first transit to make a grand water trine with the north node and Chiron from the final degrees of Scorpio was Sun conjunct asteroid Persephone, holding space for us to experience the acceptance stage of loss. It’s a common new age fairy tale to say that anything that leaves our lives is making way for something better to take its place. Now Persephone is building conjunction to Jupiter and continues to validate the struggle of moving forward when our losses do not have a silver lining.

Mercury’s station direct point in this grand trine has been so… educational. School of hard knocks. But we are being sculpted and shaped for the future that awaits us beyond the current limits of our imaginations.

Since Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, we’ve had a preview of what this transit holds in store for us throughout 2019. The Sagittarius New Moon is our opportunity to declare intentions for the entire year ahead. Jupiter in Sagittarius is about broadening our horizons so it is exceptionally important to have a clear vision of where we want to go, and how we want to get there.

With Sun and Moon aligned in exact opposition to Eros in Gemini, our intentions should have something to do with the idea of, no more hiding. No more wishing for something and then feeling defeated when it seems impossible to acheive. No more accepting love and support and devotion from people who do not receive the same from us. Mars conjunct Neptune in Pisces square Eros retrograde in Gemini exposes our capacity for treachery, decisions based in fear, selfishness, and self-repression. Mars/Neptune’s square to the New Moon challenges us to surrender. No more cowardly Eros. No more hiding.

These events and aspect patterns cause me to recall the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Yoda is teaching Luke to use the force, making him use telekinesis to stack rocks while pushing him far beyond his limits of stamina and concentration. Luke collapses in defeat and verbalizes his self-doubt, saying that it’s relatively simple to stack rocks, but he’ll never be able to pull his sunken X-wing out of the swamp. But of course, there is no difference. Luke’s weakness is based in his fear-based beliefs about himself- which he eventaully conquers to become a Jedi.
